KaZaA Cydoor Spyware Removal
This guide will show you how to remove the Cydoor parasite mandatory with the popular KaZaA (for versions 1.5 and up), without crippling KaZaA's main program.
FIRSTLY, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE NOT INSTALLED THE OTHER SPYWARE PRODUCTS INCLUDED WITH KAZAA (E.G. NEW.NET), OTHERWISE YOU WILL STILL HAVE SPYWARE LOCATED ON YOUR SYSTEM.
- 1. Download Ad-Aware (with its latest .REF file) from www.lavasoftusa.com
- 2. Install Ad-Aware, and run it. Scan your computer using Surface Scan, Deep
Scan and all your drives.
- 3. When the program has stopped scanning, it'll list all spyware located on
your system. REMOVE IT ALL
- 4. If you attempt to run KaZaA now, it'll say you have uninstalled a component
and then it'll quit.
- 5. Extract the CD_CLINT.DLL file in this archive to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
- 6. Thats it! KaZaA will run and it'll not have Cydoor active anymore.
The only difference this
.DLL makes, is that when KaZaA starts, it shows a small splash screen. Thats
it! It does nothing else! The .DLL terminates, and leaves you to download to
your hearts-content without KaZaA spying on you.
You might have to repeat steps 2-6 if KaZaA bring out an update, as it might
re-install the real Cydoor program (and other nasties).
Please be aware, that if
you run Ad-Aware again, it'll display this CD_CLINT.DLL file as spyware. It
says this because of the file name. It has no communication with any software,
and does not attempt to access the internet.
DO NOT REMOVE IT OTHERWISE KAZAA WILL NOT FUNCTION!!
